Spiritual Creativity

Creating is one of the oldest ways humans have reached for the sacred. You don't need talent. You need a little time and a willingness to play.

Long before there were words for Spirit, people painted on cave walls, drummed around fires and sang to the stars. Making things is one of the oldest ways we have of saying, "I am here, and I am part of something."

Spiritual creativity isn't about making something good. It's about the making itself: the moment when you forget the clock, lose yourself in color or sound, and feel something larger moving through you.

Try a prompt

Choose a kind of prompt and give yourself ten minutes. Don't judge what comes out. Nobody has to see it.

Five ways to begin

  1. Make a small space

A corner of a table with paper, pens and a candle is enough. Keep it ready so starting is easy.

  2. Begin with a breath

Take three slow breaths and ask, "What wants to come through today?"

  3. Set a short timer

Ten minutes takes the pressure off. You can always keep going.

  4. Let go of the result

Treat what you make as a record of a moment, not a test of your skill.

  5. Give thanks

When you finish, thank whatever helped you create, even if it was only your own hands.

Every time you create, you practice trusting something you can't see.
